...in a real Space Shuttle!

Ok, i did that on purpose, i was just curious as to what would happen if you jetison the SRB's and ET manually. Well, that.

I tried this and gained control of the shuttle and was close to landing but crashed just outside the runway at the Kennedy space center. is it the same procedure the real shuttle would use if something goes wrong during the first few seconds during launch

I'm not sure if NASA has developed a procedure for something like THIS!!! Maybe ATLS abort would qualify if the you are lucky and survive the SRB's and ET not backlashing and striking the shuttle or you striking the FSS. I believe the GLS does some checks on the shuttle before launch on those joints to make sure this doesn't happen but I'm not sure. I would think that if you have the ET or SRB sep switches in man before launch the GLS would place a flag on the consoles and if not corrected... would cause a cutoff. Don't quote me on this though.

How can you seperate manually? I managed to do it in this nifty little space sim (http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/orbit.html) , but not in SSM07

I have tried several times at the different levels to jettison the SRBs and the ET.  How were you able to do this?  Not that I would want to destroy the mission but I am curious.

Thanks.

At the beginning of the game you can do it, but now it has been blocked by developers.

In RL just flick the switch for SRB Sep and ET Sep located on Panel C3, but I think they also have a safety 'clause' were the Abort Mode must be 'turned' for at least an RTLS. There has been at least on "Abort to Orbit" (ATO) on STS-51-F. One of the main engines failed 5min 45secs into the flight.

It's a shame the developers place blocks on this sim.  Kind of takes the "realism" portion out.
