Hello again fellow space-shuttle maniacs!

Let me start by hoping you all had a merry Christmas and that you will have a happy new year. Its about bloody time we all have one good year without pandemics, war, terrorists and bad economy!

The beta of SSMS2 is as good as finished. STS-93 took some time to finish since it was the first landing at KSC with the new sim. I also forgot that the 3D of the IUS and Chandra X-ray telescope still wasnt updated.

The beta of SSMS2 is as good as finished. STS-93 took some time to finish since it was the first landing at KSC with the new sim. I also forgot that the 3D of the IUS and Chandra X-ray telescope still wasn't updated.
The STS-93 mission will need a final run through before we can declare the sim as worthy Beta version. We also have some small ideas of making a smarter time-skip system, to prevent all switch flipping and repeated actions becoming a pain in the butt. This will of course be noticed in the achievements after mission completion.

Added some screenshots from STS-93 below.

Hope to get back to you soon :-*

I just want to say thank you to the developers for posting an update and letting us know how things are progressing. I am glad to see that development of SSMS2 is still progressing and that it seems like there will be a beta version soon. Hopefully this means that the program will be released sometime in the next year, crossing my fingers. Thank you for continuing to work on it and I will continue to wait patiently until you have a version of SSMS2 that is available for a public release for us to purchase.

Another long awaited life-sign as usual.
Communication of STS-128 is finally finished. I think it works with all communication files downloaded so no more parsing of old communication files.

There's no separate female communications as we speak. That would take a lot more time to add.
Only one mission to add communications to and test then we have a beta version with four missions  ;D

And the last mission is a IUS release and shouldn't cause to much issues, so a beta finished before next year is as good as promised.

I also added some screenshots from the STS-128 mission.
As usual, no processing of the images and as you see there's no anti-aliasing or other fancy stuff enabled on the graphics card.

More news will come here before christmas.

:) G'day Pappolus, thanks for the advice.  I'm now located in the mesh globe, but I still haven't triggered next comm.  I guess there is a bit more wiggling around to do.

You have to place the combo EV2-Westar satellite in a very specific spot. I'd suggest loading the savegame in the easiest difficulty level, and hit the Z key on your keyboard, and a yellow mesh globe will appear, indicating you where exactly to place the combo (might have to wiggle around until it triggers the next comm). If you then want, save the game, revert to whichever difficulty level you were using, reload and you should be good to go. I hope this was helpful :)

Space Shuttle Mission Simulator (tm) / Difficulty in SSM 51 A
« Last post by evanf on July 08, 2023, 05:46:27 AM »
I've recently come back to SSM after about 10 years, and I'm re-climbing the learning curve.  I've got over a few problems, but this recent one I can't solve at the moment.  I've worked through a lot of SSM 51 A and reached the stage where I have the Westar -VI hovering over the Telestat - H doors. So, that's followed the COMM 1216 to "Manouver (US spelling accepted) EV 2 & position the Westar-VI, etc, etc." I guess I then expected COMM 1217 to come up "EV 1 & EV 2 - Use the RMS to grapple the Westar-VI satellite's front grapple", but that didn't happen.  I tried "Timeslip" to see if something came up, but it didn't, so I just went ahead to try to grapple Westar-VI.  I've spent about 8 + hours on trying to grapple, I get close but can't complete it. Is there a switch in the programme which hasn't been switched, or is there some secret I've missed? Any help would be gratefully received.

Maybe you should join forces with the Reentry dev, he is planning to do a Space Shuttle sim now he has got Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo sims fairly complete.

I just wanted to say thank you for the update on June 11th. The new program is looking good and I am glad to see that it is still progressing. I will continue to patiently wait for it's release once it is finished.

A little report to confirm that all generic communications and all communications in STS-1 and STS-8 is finally finished. :-*

Took  a while since the landing part needed an overhaul from the old version. HUD display has been improved and the guidance system works much better now.
Next up is adding comms for STS-128, but the only new stuff I need for that is docking comms and some spacewalk stuff.

I decided to add some shots of the landing. First image shows the HUD at declutter level 2, which is the common display to use after acquiring the outer glide slope.

Next, is a better view that could be used during the early part of landing. It shows the HUD, the horizontal situation display, the vertical situation display as well as the ascent/entry primary flight display.

And here is what happens when you forget to remove the debug flag in the code. Some useful gibberish during testing. :-\

Hope to bring more good news soon!
