Don't think anyone really confirmed Xmas day for definite. It was just around Dec last year I inquired at was told it was still a year away from release. Also the "not posting for 60secs" is just a simple forum spam prevention mechanism.

Hi, guys!

Please hang in there, the new SSMS 2 will be released by Christmas of this year (2012). The developers are working really hard on the new SSMS 2 so it can be released by Christmas!

          Cheers,
       Vincent

Admire the optimism but I've still not seen anything official that this is the case

I wouldn't be surprised if this was low down on the list of priorities, or never implemented at all. Admin has said time and time again how the aim was not to focus on "disaster scenarios" or aborts, but on the simulation of successful missions.

Putting this in some form of context, in previous versions it was possible to prematurely arm the SRB sep and "sort of" do an abort. That "feature" was subsequently removed.

my 2 cents...if it didnt happen on the real flight, it shouldn't happen in SSM.   I like SSM because I am flying real flights with real payloads.

It just needs to be tightend up a bit, visuals upgraded, and I would love for the GPC to be more fully simulated.

In short, I cannot wait for SSMS 2.    I cannot wait to take the Shuttle back home to orbit!

well thats wierd. not every space flight went perfectly. there are bound to be glitches in every flight. like an engine out or something. or powerfailure in space.

Main engine failures/cut outs are already simulated in SSMS2007 along with some other minor faults displayed on the F7 panel, so long as this actually happened as part of the historical mission.

This is not the same as adding in a full on abort / failure to reach orbit scenario.

Are you 100% positive this is the release date?  Has this been stated by the developers?

I know two things about the release date of SSMS 2.  First, we're all hoping for Christmas...  Second, no one has promised anything.
