NASA - SSMS Synchronized Launches Events

Hi all.

Considering that we only have 9 STS launches to go (if plans don't change), I suggest we all make the most of them, and here is how:

For the last 4 launches or so, I had sync-ed SSM2007 to the NASA MET and performed everything from T-1:50 up to MECO in parallel with the real launch. One reason is to verify our model and second reason to simply have fun and "feel" a "real" launch.

In order to succeed at this, the ideal setup should consist of two PCs (or one laptop and one PC) - the laptop/weaker PC for the NASATV, real MET and TeamSpeak, and the second, the gaming PC, for running SSM2007.

I don't know how much load can Uri's TS server support, but it could be cool to have several hundred of us online, "launching" together with the real Shuttle while chatting with each other. The culmination of this event can be a "sendoff flight" when all of us can join in the last Shuttle launch next year and accompany the last Shuttle crew on their ride on to orbit.

Imagine that: as the real last Shuttle lifts-off, several hundred (or thousand) virtual Shuttles lift off too all over the world. This experience can be something all of us may remember for a long time.

In order to have this "sendoff flight" perform successfully, we can practice during the next launches and see how we can make this a perfect event.

Count me in! Me and Uri have been wanting people to join us on the TS so we would be able to discuss the launch and your idea is awesome. 

Please note that the TS is as always still up and has a section for STS-125 and anybody can feel free to discuss the mission on there!!

I havn't tested the TS load capability properly, but according to the free TS license I'm using I can assign up to 1000 slots

bandwidth-wise I believe that with a reasonable sound quality (lower then current qual) I can squeeze in about 600-700 slots.

as for RAM&CPU usage, I don't believe we would have problems

so I can safely say that we should good for about 100 slots - without any special preps.

any chance we would get a special incremental pack for the next launch with the shuttle and correct planed launch time and orbit?. we just need T-01:50:00 to orbit insertion, and we'll get a special "mission badge" for completing the launch sequence (we can also record clips and make one crazy community video

I would LOVE that although I am not sure about next launch as tomorrow I am going to attempt LTT tickets so I will know tomorrow. But that would be cool if Ground Crew could implement it with very little hassle.

Its a brilliant idea Admin. I dont whether I can join in, it all depends on when the next batch of launches are planned for.

Anyhow as spaceboy said it's normally a small crowd so the more the merrier. Kosmonaut and I was just commenting that it's kind of a disappointment that more people don't take advantage of the TS server. It would be cool to put the voices behind some of these posts.

Really sorry Driver! I had forgotten, as you were not there yesterday because you had to work.   And I have been very busy so I am very forgetful but yea it is usually me, Uri, Driver,and maybe a couple other people there. It would be great to see everyone!

Good Idea. Let's meet all together in teamspeak e.g. this Saturday, May 30, at 18:00 GMT that would be
11:00 (11 a.m.) PDT
13:00 (01 p.m.) CDT
14:00 (02 p.m.) EDT
19:00 (07 p.m.) West Europe (London, ...)
20:00 (08 p.m.) Central Europe

For a synced launch time one hour later at 19:00 GMT.
Maybe Uri can speak the countdown (every Minute, T-30sec, T-15sec and the last 10 sec).

(If you like, we can as well try to rehearse the original Launch time (7:17 a.m. EDT).
That would be OK for the Europeans but quite early for our West coast US friends.)
