Hi all
First mission under my belt. Fantastic programme, I must admit I struggled with landing for the first few times and am now trying to do the grapple in STS-8. Many thanks to all who posted on the hints and tips pages, after reading and realising I'm not the only one who took 3 or 4 days for it to sink in I have now completed the first grapple.

Regards from sunny England (actually it's raining again)
John

OK, I finally decided to take a break playing with all the systems and fly STS-1 start to finish.  Smooth flight and no problems except for one that you guys might get a chuckle out of:

I actually blew the landing the first couple of times because I thought the HUD runway cue was somehow messed up because it didn't coincide with what I thought I was looking at on the ground - I kept seeing that nice, gleaming paved runway off to the left and further downrange, closer to all the buildings (I think it must be RW 22 if I am looking at the EDW charts correctly).  I made a couple of nice landings there, too, but of course the sim said otherwise - wasted the Shuttle and crew :o.  Oh well, I then tried to land where the HUD told me and saw the RW markings as I got closer in - mission successful :).

They didn't use the paved runway at Edwards until after a few missions.  STS-3 landed at White Sands for some reason.
