SSMS really is the best option out there for those who want to fly a Shuttle on their computer.  I got into an argument with a guy on O-F.com over this, and it is just clear that SSMS is able to do far more than the Shuttle shuttles can.  ...<SNIP>

:)

Save your breath Cras. Don't argue on the O-F forum, because if somebody there still argues about this subject after three years we've been on-air, then he/she is beyond hope or help.

In the past, we encountered many more of this type, bashing and bad-mouthing us and our product. Our choice was to completely ignore this "religious" hate-fest, and never discuss anything with any of them, neither there, nor on our own forum.

Fortunately, we have many O-F customers and valuable crew members and contributors - they know who they are - who know better. They are the truly sane O-F community members who count and whom we respect.

Anyway, thanks for the voice, but it's a waste of your valuable time :)

As a professional pilot instructor and flyer of both sims, there are just things this sim can do that freeware simulations have no chance of.  It's not perfect yet, but the developers here listen to the issues experienced by the users and make the sim better all the time.

Looking forward to SSM 2...

Religious hate fest is a good way to put it.  They are more concerned about getting the different ET tanks to look right and the different launch towers, yet you ask about DAP, or the GPC, or APU, or the fuel cells (which I am convinced they actually do not know much about those two systems), the RMS, the autopilot during de-orbit, it is clear, you guys win.

You will always have an advocate in me.  While I agree that O-F is a waste of time since they quickly turn the argument to almost nonsensicle bashing, over at AVSIM, at Dantrix, and other places, I will always recommend to people who want a different flight simming experience to give SSMS a serious look.

And if you guys ever decide to make a run at an Apollo project and give NAASP and AMSO a run for their money, I am all for that as well.

Keep up the good, no the excellent, no the awesome work, and I look very much forward to some of the other new features you guys have hinted at for version number two.

Cheers,

Scott K

Hi, guys!

I wanted to ask you about the cockpit in SSMS 2, will there be more functioning switches in SSMS 2 like the switches does more stuff like the switch turn off/on the cabin fan, ect.? Thanks!

         Cheers,

LOL! We are not the "vengeful" type, so IF we ever decide to do an Apollo sim, it will be due to vastly different reasons. We feel that there is still plenty of work to be done on SSMS so we have our hands full for the moment ;)

Thank you for the support!

Not sure about the cabin fan (we can't simulate the cockpit air flow yet), but YES, more functioning switches.

Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since my last login. Just wanted to stop by and say the new sim is looking SWEET.

Congratulations to the entire team, it looks really nice.

Well, time for my dreaded medication again. I'll stop in again soon.

Take care everyone

Oh certainly, didn't mean to suggest you would want or they would deserve malice, unlike those SSU guys (one inparticular), actually I think the AMSO guy is guite a nice guy, but so many wish to fly those missions by the numbers so to speak, get the TEI burn right when the real mission did it, perform the LOI right at the right time, that sort of thing, which is darn near impossible to do in the other sim, but its own seperate simulator I think those sorts of things could become possible.  Which is why SSMS will always be superior to anything found in the other place because you contorl both the vehicle and the environment in which it flies in.  I cannot tell you the painstaking workarounds and the subsequent side effects for just getting the space station in LVLH!  Dont think twice about that sort of thing in SSMS because quite frankly it all works like it is supposed to and quite semmlessly as well.

But enough praise from me, you guys need to get back to work on version number two so I have a reason to give you guys some more deserved money.

Not a good idea ;D

Sorry that I have to say this but the O-F community has got a few arrogant people who think to be the smartest because they are using a space flight sim and that their freeware products are the best in the world only because they are free. I stopped arguing about SSM there. It's like going into a church and try to talk about agnosticism or atheism. Doesn't make sense at all.

The only thing that ties me to "the other sim" is [other product]. But my favourite sim meanwhile is SSM. I claim that there will never be any other Shuttle sim comparable to SSM in my lifetime. I was waiting for something like SSM since ~1994. And if, and this is a very big if, if Exciting Simulations would do an Apollo sim in future, comparable to the style and complexity of SSM, they would certainly own the complete space flight sim market LoL 8)

But for now there is still an awesome number of missions to be added to SSM. And the most wanted thing for me is a fully "walk"able ISS. Only this will make SSM2 the winner, at least for me.

Let's wait for SSM2 and not care about others which won't reach the level of SSM anyway (not as freeware).

Must've been something to "break" you, Moonwalker. LOL  ;D

Anyway. Let's stop this line of discussion guys, NOW. This is exactly what we are trying to avoid here, and this is exactly why we are not encouraging any chat about any other product, be it praiseful or bashful.

Thank you,

Pah, I am just nothing compared to some strange characters in the O-F community ;D

But agreed. It's better to focus on us and SSM, not on somebody and something else :)

Yes back on the topic  :)

I assume the intent for the new cockpit is not only will the switches be able to be hit in the VC, but also the input keyboard for the GPCs and the DAP as well?

And how about the egg timers?  Are those just there for visual eye candy or will we be able to set them or will they be say tied to actual countdowns like say the countdown clock on an OMS burn?
