Well, look on the bright side, at least Hurricane Bill isn't coming this way to stop the launch and the 2nd day of school for you..

However, according to the latest Hurricane Center report (1700 hrs EDT) it is headed for the UK.   UK'ers get prepared!

I'm not at home and have an unreliable internet here. At least I must decide between SSM or NASA-TV. Hey, is it possible to have SSM run in windowed mode on XP? Than I could run everything on one Laptop in (tiny stamp mode).

Actually that is funny. That exact thing happened last school year. (without the canceled launch)

IMO 99% of the WORKING PEOPLE will be ... at work, so I guess that there is little chance for a synced launch this time.

I agree as well, but I thought that I'd throw it out there anyway...

It starts to becoming ANNOYING, but the latest scrub may yet push the launch into the weekend! In that case, we can have a synced launch - LOL!

Hi,

If we attempt to do a Synch Launch today, then the closest mission is STS-116:

- It is a Discovery mission
- Same inclination and altitude - the most important factors!
- It is a "night" launch, even if technically starts 3 hrs before the current one and the dates are not even close.

So if any of you is awake, we can meet on TeamSpeak with STS-116 paused at T-00:09:00 and waiting for the NASATV cue to "Resume Countdown".

Hopefully this one won't be a scrub after all our efforts to move it to the weekend - LOL!

Just a quick tip regarding the NASA TV sync.
on the last launch attempt we have noticed that the yahoo feeds and the ASX feed vary in delay, and they are about 40 seconds behind the real media stream and the delay can grow even longer due to network buffering.

it is recommended to use the Real Media stream due to the nature of the broadcast - it's lowers the bit rate instead of waiting for the buffer to fill.

BUT keep the ASX file close by, because I once had an incident where the RM feed got corrupted on SSME start - fortunately the ASX has it's delay, so I was able to view the SSME start after all :P

ASX link (windows media player): http://www.nasa.gov/55644main_NASATV_Windows.asx

Real media link:
http://www.nasa.gov/ram/35037main_portal.ram

the Real player can be downloaded from
http://www.real.com

you can save the links to the desktop (save as..). they are small files that launch the feed immediately.

adding another thing.
in order to watch NASA TV (if you don't have it on the TV) you will need another computer.

but you can also sync up on audio only. which can be done via the normal video streams or a dedicated audio stream

http://www.nasa.gov/ram/55643main_NASATV_Audio_Only.ram

ohh.. and one last thing,
another reason to go with STS-116 for the synced launch..

As noted......NASA TV's internet stream is about a minute behind as we speak.

I just don't get it.
