Steam?
« on: January 07, 2015, 04:24:10 AM »
Are there any possibilities of this game ever going onto Steam at all? A few of the older sims have gone on there recently and been very popular by all accounts, I am sure it would open the game up to a new audience.

I don't think that Steam will expand the audience of the simulation. This game is too serious and not everyone has enough patience to get through the learning curve, for example, it took me two days to learn the RMS grappling technique with Challenger STS-8, now I am getting ready for Hubble launch STS-31 mission with Discovery.

If you have a look at other serious simulations, many of them are distributed also directly from developers. Steam is more for mainstream gamers, for example Train Simulator fans, get into the train, press two buttons and start rolling, then purchase multiple addons. Meantime space flights are the pinnacle of human invented technology.

Steam is just a platform for buying computer games, a very popular platform as it happens. You can put any game on there you want and it will probably sell loads. This game would sell. It would bring in some more income to a relatively dead game that is still playable.

Some serious sims are on Steam such as Flightsim X now, the DCS sims, even Rise of Flight is on there now. Maybe the devs of this game should ring the RoF devs up and see if it made a big difference to their sales going onto Steam, considering they also had a very niche game available online from their website and with a limited probably relatively dryed up fan base.

The high cost of the download version, plus the fact you cannot get the CD boxed version anywhere in the UK now, is more than likely putting off new buyers off this game.

Not only that but imagine what the Steam achievements could be for this game lol ... !

FSX Steam Edition is even worse than the original Deluxe DVD's. I have spent an hour on the cfg trying to get it working for a buddy. Finally just copied min cfg and it worked better. I wish Lockheed would but P2D V2.x on Steam. But that aint gonna happen.

Quite a few users of FSX : Steam Edition have reported superior framerates and reduced stutters when compared with the original FSX SP2. I can't comment because I don't use FSX anymore. I have "upgraded" to P3D v2.4 (I haven't installed 2.5 because it would require a complete reinstallation of the product and all of my addons, and that is a thankless task).

Folks,

I would gladly purchase another license through STEAM in order to avoid the support emails needed every time I reload my machine, or purchase a new system.

I would also not mind buying another license through Steam.

What about GOG, how do you feel about that option? I really like using it :) But I guess it doesn't comply too well with developers' philosphy regarding licensing.

I would buy the sim again, if released through Steam.
