The Youngest SSM 07 Astronaut
« on: February 03, 2009, 10:59:31 PM »
I a proud to say that my little one, whom I call MR. E. Enigma, who is only 7 yrs old, loves to play SSM07. He comes straight home from school and the first thing he does is load up SSM07, he is in the middle of STS-1. At first he had help from me to get going but now he does it all by himself.

This is what he wants to be when he grows up, and he wants to be all of them too.

Navy Pilot
Police man
Doctor
NASCAR Driver
and last but not least, Astronaut

LOL  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I recruited my twelve year old nephew as shuttle pilot. Isn't strange how the very young can be captivated by complex operations? Anytime I got RMS work to do he's right there. Always asking if I completed STS-98... Where I'm trying to forget it looks like he's not gonna let it slide. He makes an great pilot.  ::)

I would have been all over SSM2007 as a ten year old in late 1980.

I remember having a shuttle sim in 1982 for the TI-99/4A.  I had to load the program from cassette tape!  Part of it, from what I remember, was text driven and you had to choose the correct procedure for the situation.

Conan, That's fantastic!!!

I wish that my boys (ages 15/12) would get interested, but, they just don't seem to care... I hear: "Yeah Dad, that cool and all but it's just too slow to be any fun"... If they only really understood how "cool" this really is!

Funny thing is, when my oldest son was about 3-7 years-old he really got heavy into a sim-like game called "Battle Zone" and, surprisingly, he was really good at it. It was a FPS-like space sim that you had to build up your area defenses by collecting and recycling resources. And when we played on the LAN together, I couldn't beat him...

Ya I've been playing this sim since I was 13. But that is because I love NASA and have my dream set there. :)

Personally, when I was younger, I was really into more complex things. I think maybe it is because kids always want to prove they can do something where adults simply think a child cannot because they are too young. Unfortunately, we all learned that the hard way and grew up too fast I'm sure haha. But that is fantastic about the young one enjoying something like this. That is quite a list of things the young man wants to do. I always wanted to drive a NASCAR too haha.

Well I am happy that this community and the Admins are very happy to have such a little one enjoying this wonderful sim too. I am also very proud and pleased that he is doing this instead of playing other games that could be more violent and mind numbing. At least with this sim he learns and is not influenced by Violent and unacceptable behavior. Thank you SSM07  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Conversly, if I can use SSM2007, a seven-year-old probably can!  :)

Since you locked the Virgin thread:
I fell in love with the Shuttle sim, because of the Virgin version.
I still have it. I would be glad to send you the CD (with voice commands), if you are interested (requires an older computer, it runs only on the new ones with DOSBOX).

Since upon registering I had to give my email address, you should have it, but here it is anyway:

I had that sim too, but THIS sim is "Warp 9/Trans-Warp" (in Star Trek terms) above that!

I found that it had too many bugs that were never reconciled and I eventually stop "simming" it. But, for the most part, it was better than any sim available at that time.

THIS sim is updated more than most (by far!) of any other sim that I've ever had (in the last 25+ years of simming).

And, I'm EXTREMELY happy with their support over the last 1+ years... Every other month or so they add upgrades and bug fixes for free. Can't beat that.

Thanks for the offer gblau :). We like looking forward. If I were you, I'd hold on that copy however. You never know what it may make on eBay after 2010 ;).

I had to remove the email to protect it from crawlers. If you absolutely want to pass your email address via the forum (unnecessary IMHO), please use Private Messaging - it is much safer.
