Title: SSM 2010 - upgrade available?
Post by: brad2009a on May 25, 2010, 08:18:53 PM
Dumb question, and I apologize in advance if already asked and answered, but when SSM 2010 comes out, will we who have 2007 need to purchase the new game in full, or will there be an upgrade version?

Way too early to discuss this. Sorry :)

When the time comes, we'll make an official announcement.

If I were to guess? I would say that it would be a new program with improved graphics, full virtual flight deck with active switches, possible ISS entry and other "next step" improvements. Therefore, I am inclined to think it would be an entirely new purchase. And I will be ready to purchase it!   ;D

Of course, no one knows the mind and hearts of the ES team.....except the Admin.  ;)

I would be fully willing to pay for it but my guess with Admin's response that they will have a special discount for people who already have purchased SSM-2007. Free would not make sense because almost their entire market are the people who already have bought SSM-2007

I just purchased SSM2007, and would have no problem shelling out full price again before the end of the year if that is when SSM2010 is ready. ES has proven themselves to me to be a dedicated team that cares about the quality of their product AND the experience their customers have with it. There aren't too many companies like that around today.

I would hazard a guess, though, based on some previous experience with similar design firms, that there would be an lesser-priced pre-order available for those who already own SSM2007. I would further guess that if the full retail price of SSM2010 was $50, the pre-sale loyalty price would be $30-35.

Either way, though, the credit card is ready to buy the moment they are ready to sell.

Couldn't agree more. It is part of the reason this sim is such a success. The forum is another example of the quality and dedication. Full price for ssm-2010 is not a problem for me. The original price has paid for itself many times over in entertainment alone!  :)

I have also recently purchased SSM2007.  If owners of SSM2007 will be required to purchase SSM2010, my decision to purchase it or not will depend on what features it will have comapred to SSM2007 vs the price to purchase.

I would suggest a statement about the development of SSM2010 be listed in the news and announcements section along with policy statements about purchasing requirements for current SSM2007 owners and official support/development for SSM2007 after the release of SSM2010 if a seperate purchase of SSM2010 is required (even if it is just a statement that it is undetermined at this time).

Thammond,

Such a statement will be published at the right time.

I was waiting for something like SSM2007 for almost 15 years, since the early 1990s when the old Shuttle sim by Virgin Games was going to become obsolete. And since the mid 2000s my hope had literally disappeared. And then there was SSM2007 which I discovered just accidentally, which was really a shock to me in a positive sense. I did not even look for the price at all. On December 31 in 2007 I was just sitting in front of the screen to press the purchase and download buttons to finally get what I was looking for more than a decade (I still have those screenshots :)). I'm willing to purchase another complete new SSM version (hint: especially if there will be an ISS interior comparable to the Shuttle/Spacelab interior ;)).

I can assure you that the same enthusiasm, excitement and anticipation were present at this end during the development of SSM2007 and culminating with its release.

Enthusiasm, excitement and anticipation have been here all along ever since its release, while developing the add-on packs, and now, when building the next generation.

We are thankful to all our customers, and especially to our forum members, mods and Beta Testers, whose nags, complaints, advice, suggestions, help and support, have encouraged and guided us to where we are today, and to where we'll hopefully all be tomorrow.

Almost my story exactly. I had seen the "other" space sim once and tried it out, but I needed an engineering degree to figure that one out. Besides, it didn't have the same feel that the old Virgin game had.

Now, if only someone would start working on a really good combat flight sim like Longbow or Longbow 2. Popping tanks from behind a hill was a special thrill!  ;)

Agreed! I'd buy a Longbow sim almost the moment it hits the shelves!

Well, you'll probably be forced to wait to 2012.
according to ED AH-64 is on their list for DCS series right after A-10C

A-10 was a great sim too! Patience pays off. I waited for about 15 years for something like SSM. A year or two for a great Apache/Longbow combat sim is a cake walk!  ;D

Great info! Thanks! Please pass on more!

I prefer sims without canned missions. This STS one doesnt bother me as its the historical recreation thats the fun bit, but for a jetfighter sim I really want to have more than just flying frozen missions. I want to be able tos et up waypoint attacks like Tornado, choose targets and bombs like EF2000, have a set of pilots at the base to manage like Gunship 2000, and have at least some kind of dynamic or semi dynamic campaign like all of the above and of course Falcon 4 and TAW, my favourites. Microprose did some great sims in its time, about time these new developers learned what makes up a good sim. For me technological/flight accuracy and good graphics only make up a small part of the immersion in a game. I like to feel like I am playing the game the way I want to rather than the way the developer wants me to. There are precious few sim games around like that these days. In fact can't name even one from the last ten years - except for BOB: Wings of Valour possibly which again was based on a much older game by Rowan. Last games I played like that was the superb B17 Flying Fortress and Falcon 4, havent seen anything of note come out since those. Pretty sad I think.
