Anyone here following STS-128?
Im sitting here in Sweden and following everything on NASA-TV, the time over here is 04.42 in the morning. My fellow swede Christer Fuglesang is just about to get seated in Discovery. Its a shame that none of the national TV channels in Sweden is reporting about this. :(
Well, I hope everything is gonna go allright for Christer and the rest of the crew on Discovery and STS-128 tonight and that nothing is going to make them abort this launch attempt (still remember STS-127 :P )...
There's been a lightning strike six miles east of Launch Pad 39A, where space shuttle Discovery and a crew of seven astronauts are awaiting launch at 1:36 a.m. tomorrow, less than two hours from now. Due to the lightning, the range now is "red" on three constraints: lightning, cumulus clouds and flight-through-precipitation. but you can check nasa.com and you can watch tv live called nasa tv
oops sorry i just noticed that you did mention that you were watching nasa tv sorry
By now, public affairs officer is convinced to have a liftoff today... t- 1hour 30 mins to go and we are still COUNTING

thats great im also watching it i wish i could hear what nasa tv is saying because it doesnt have closed caption but thanks to blogger .. i am hearing impaired
while i was watching the nasa tv and i noticed there is shooting flame coming out of tower what was that????
Radar looks ugly. After this storm rolls west, another and larger one will roll in from the south.
No Launch tonight. I guarantee that.
Red for:
Precipitation
Lightning within 10NM
Field Mills
Anvil Clouds
Cumulonimbus Clouds (CB)
Ceiling
The flames seen is the gaseous hydrogen burnoff stack. Totally normal.
Oh well, at least the ship is clean now!
oh boy that doesnt sound good thanks for the info!
Official 24 hour scrub due to weather. The vehicle was perfect today.
Tanking coverage starts on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 PM EDT, with a scheduled launch at 1:10:22 AM EDT on Wednesday morning.
I think we need to do a dry dance...
Has anyone been able to find STS 128 flight data files ? They're still at 127 on the NASA web page http://www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/news/flightdatafiles/index.html
L-7 hours, we are tanking. LH2 into slow fill.
Good luck and godspeed, Discovery.
Scrub!

48 hour scrub! Maybe Friday!

48 hour scrub! Maybe Friday!
Perhaps, depending on what is found during the testing that will happen in the next day and a half.
The 48 hour scrub is pretty much just a... template, I guess is the word, for the work that they need to do. 24 hour scrub wouldn't be enough time to inert the tank, so they'd need at least a 48 hour scrub.
This may be the only time I "hope" for a scrub which might push the launch into the weekend so that we all can meet for a Sync Launch.
I know, it is VERY egoistic but I can't help it ;)
/Admin
this round would be tomorrow (28th) at 04:22 UTC. (00:22 EDT)
so synced launch may be possible,
I'll do my best to wake up and be on TS.
anyway, we need a night ISS launch. STS-117? syncing on the 9min hold resume with NASA TV?
STS-117 in SSM starts at 23:38 UTC (1156 min earlier)
STS- 93 in SSM starts at 04:31 UTC (9 min later)
FYI, an official 24 hour hold has been called, they need more time to review the data.
Going to target the second attempt on Friday (23:59 EDT).
I wonder if weather will hold up till midnight. It couldnt even hold for a 1:36AM launch and with Danny off shore it might enhance rain chances on E.Coast so IMO it will probably be a long shot for friday and we might have to wait a month but let's hope weather can give NASA a break for once lol.
There is a 60% chance of the weather being "NO GO" for tanking.
I think that with only 3 active Shuttles remaining, NASA will scrub even if a bird drops its "load" on the launch pad at T-00:00:12!

lol, they didn't mind launching astro-bat last year...

That was a DoD mission sending Batman in LEO.

They are approximately 10 to 15 minutes behind in the tanking schedule, weather postponed the planned 2:34 PM EDT start. We will, however, be good to go at launch time (pending weather, etc).
Good luck, and godspeed.
Astronauts are boarding Discovery!
we have a Go for launch
Discovery Launched 18 minutes ago. Good SRB sep and MECO and ET seperation. and APU's have been shut down at 12:16 p.m.
Anyone else notoce the Blue backgrounds on the aft and front center MFD's?
I didn't notice much as i watched the launch half on tv and half on my deck outside my house. Night Launches are truly amazing and love to see more of them soon.
I still get goosebumps at main engine start and launch. I've only missed a few launches since the program began. I can remember the Enterprise flight tests and thinking how in the world can a 747 fly with that thing on top!?!
I know the Shuttle has to retire at some point but I do hope we squeeze another year or two out of them. They're still some of the most beautiful flying machines ever built. The Constellation system just isn't as sexy. ;)
The MPLM is attached to Harmony!
TPS looks VERY good so far!

Right now, they are scanning the payload bay with the payload bay cameras into the almost empty payload bay of the shuttle. with "Leonardo" M.P.L.M. on the ISS, and the Canadarm1 (Shuttle RMS) grappled onto and holding away from payload bay the OBSS arm, with nothing left but the LMC and the ATA in the payload bay. :)

SAFE LANDING DISCOVERY!
/Admin
They have just been been given the go for Payload Bay Door closing. Weather continues to be dynamic around the cape, mostly a low pressure system around Lake Okeechobee and Tampa Bay. Landing is still set for a runway 15 landing at 7:05 p.m. EDT.
As expected, "no go" for today's landing.

Correction : just the first opportunity waved off.
They're making a "1-orbit delay" : from page 3-11 go directly to section 6 and NO SINGLE APU START for the moment.
And that's a wrap for today. They'll get another 24 hours on-orbit, and we can try again tomorrow.
Procedures to start backing out of the deorbit timeline have begun.
Richard Jones wasn't kidding when he said he'd take it down to the wire, only 8 minutes before the scheduled deorbit burn!

Correction. The REAL 24hrs weather forecast tells a different story. The other landing opps were mere "wishful thinking" 8)

WELCOME HOME DISCOVERY!
I see STS-128 has no follow-up in the forum and an STS-129 topic has already been opened. I guess it "lock time" for STS-128 then :)
