Today is Launch day. I wanted to go ahead and open up a topic for it.
(Godspeed Endeavour) :)
Good luck to the crew of Endeavour. May they speed safely into the heavens and scream back down to Earth in the same manner
We are now less than 12 hours away from launch.
RSS retract time officially listed as 23:58pm.
Probability of KSC weather prohibiting tanking: 0%
Primary concern(s): Showers within 20NM of the SLF, cumulus clouds.
Probability of KSC weather prohibiting launch: 30%
I have to go to school so if anyone can take over it would be great.
I get all my info from here

G-dspeed to the crew!
Cocked and locked.... I have to work tonight but we have NASA TV at work!! Bonus! ;)
Question: I wonder who draws the short straw, and has to test this new 'Water purification' system first? :-X
Well, myself and my two year old son are both GO for launch. This will be his first live launch, and we've been training all day. ;D
Crew strapping in right now. 6:55 PM CDT launch is on schedule. Weather looking like it's a non factor.
Ok, anyone in Central Florida be ready to watch the launch at 19:55 hrs!!!
Love listening to those comm checks.

The great thing with night launches is that if it is dark enough, it can be seen from Miami. Although currently I am in DC so I will have to view from the TV.
Anyone in Central FL tonight, I hope you enjoy the view.
What a great launch (live here in Orlando) and I pray the remaining 15-day mission is a success!!

I wish all that radio chatter could be added to the sim. I love it. ;D
Did anyone see it? I live in West Palm Beach and I could see that amazing Shuttle lifting up, I mean the glow of the booster rockets was imense! Just before I saw it come over the house line, there was this huge glow of orange throught the sky, It was really cool.
Its been a while since ive seen one, and living 3 hours away from KSC still gives an awe of that shuttle lifting up to space. Was really incredible, I could actually see the space shuttle with my binoculars. And the ME were visible too.
Here is a link to were I posted on NSF with my pictures of the launch.

What a great luanch! Here's to a great mission!
Some interesting news on CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/space/11/15/shuttle.endeavor/index.html?eref=rss_topstories)
KU Antenna looks like it has a problem. I've heard that there is a manual workaround in progress. However if the KU-ant fails more, they swap to Star Tracker for getting to the ISS.
The thermal blanket might not be in a area on 'Major concern'. An RMS/OBSS inspection has been completed, results in next few hours.
And for more info here (http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/space_place/framesource_current.html) and here (http://www.cbsnews.com/network/news/space/currentglance.html)
Right it's 0230 GMT, I'm off to bed, been a long day for me :)
Check out this link, It might even help if you plan to make STS-126 a free mission addon.
http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/STS126_flash/ (http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/STS126_flash/)
I just heard on NASA TV that it was not a thermal blanket. It was either ice or an optical illusion.
BTW, who is the woman who does the commentary on NASA TV? She has the most soothing voice I have ever heard!
Today's highlights are
Docking, Rotate FE-2
– Rendezvous and Docking
– Downlink RPM photos
– Seat Liner swap
– OBSS Handoff to SRMS using SSRMS
So it's a big day. Hope all goes well I will try to keep this thread up to date.
Thanks for the "realtime update" speceboy ;)
Just checked NASA TV and Endeavour crew just had their wake up call: it's gonna be a busy day ;D
They won't know the state of the KU radar until 150,000 feet (was it feet?) out.
24 minutes till TI burn. :)
Docking still scheduled for 5:04pm EST today. ;D
Distance 1000 miles to Station.
Closing 138 miles per orbit.

I meant to put NH Burn NOT TI Burn. ;)
ODS ring extended
NH burn
Two good engines, good control.
"That was a good long burn, Endeavour. No trim required".
The NH burn added around Delta V of 125.9 fps
Enable Rendezvous Navigation in work. (Rndz CL Block 7A).
This puts Endeavours on board guidance computers into Rendezvous Navigation needed to support the upcoming rendezvous and docking.
Not a super video but it is the NC Burn.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_qqe7BxWY8
Target track setup should now be in work. This pre loads UNIVERSAL POINTING screens with the required data so the Shuttle can begin to track (point at) the ISS after the next burn.
Orbital convoy with Endeavour, ISS, Progress...

Just wanted to mention all info come from nasaspaceflight.com. :)
the Ku can provide data at greater ranges much than 135K, it's just that operationally the measurements aren't used until inside of 135K as the range measurements are corrupted beyond 142K. The 7K difference is to be conservative and ensure no bad data is processed in the nav system.
As well, the Ku can provide quality data down to 100 ft minimum. For ISS flights, the angle measurements become noisy at close ranges, but the range and range rate values are solid. Again, operationally, it's just easier to stop processing all measurements.
The ring extended.
You can see "sparkles" here, is it ice coming loose and floating away?
Star Tracker angles being taken to AUTO.
This incorporates good star tracker 'marks' on the ISS into the rendezvous navigation program. This helps refine the accuracy of the onboard rendezvous navigation.
Endeavour is 2000 miles away - coming up on the BAR :)

ISS was out of KU range, there was no video downlink. There will be replays.

The docking system will currently be working to 'dampen' out any residual motion between the two vehicles.
The crew will be looking for an the indication on their displays that the docking system 'Petals' have not moved for at least 60 seconds.

Well Spaceboy, it means that your attempts to point people to the NASA site is considered by some as telling rabbits to have sex...
ROFL is "an internet accronmym for Rolling On Floor Laughing, and like all things internet it has adapted to nerd culture and has taken on new real-life use, though usually in a satirical way".
So, Spaceboy, keep up the good work reporting on STS 126, just don't point out where the ocean is, we know where the water comes from.

Welcome to Flight Day 4
Highlights:
EVA1 (NTA/FHRC Transfer, Stbd SARJ Maint), MPLM Transfer
– NTA Transfer to PLB
– FHRC Transfer to ESP-3 on MCAS at WS6
– Starboard SARJ Maintenance
» Cover removal/install
» Cleaning and lubrication of race ring
» TBA R&Rs
– MPLM Transfer (ARED, ZSRs)
Good Luck Everybody. :)
what a mess on the 1st EVA.
they have managed to loose one of the bags with all the materials for the SARJ cleaning stuff...
What.
I will be back. I have to find out what is happening. :o
I've not heard it all yet, but it looks like one of the gun released lube in the bag. When the astronaut was 'cleaning' the bag/tools, it then broke away.
What's happening exactly? All in order in EV-1?
sounds chaotic up there.
I have the same impression, but I don't understand completely the dialogues... :-[
From the RSS feed (http://www.nasa.gov/rss/126_update.xml):
QuoteAstronauts Resume Spacewalk After Tools Lost
18 November 2008 21:08
Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper has resumed work on SARJ cleanup and lubrication. At approx. 3:33 p.m. EST, Piper reported that one of the Braycote lubrication guns had released grease into her toolbag. As she was cleaning the bag and wiping the tools and equipment inside, the bag floated away. Another bag carrying identical equipment is now being shared by Piper and Bowen. EVA officers in Mission Control believe there is enough equipment for the spacewalkers to complete the planned SARJ trundle bearing assembly removal and race ring cleaning.
So there's now a bag full of equipment floating around in LEO? Well at least until its orbit decays enough for it to fall into atmo.
I can already "hear" the headlines.
Quoteand astronaut was injured today in orbit. during a space walk performed by the crew of Whateverthenameis. the astronaut was hit in the head by a bag containing what appears to be grease and wipes. ISA says the bag is presumably the bag lost in Nov 2008 aboard the old ISS. this will cause no delays in the scheduled flight to wherever.
Flight Day 6
Highlights:
- MPLM Rack Transfer/Install, EVA Campout
– MPLM Rack Transfer (WRS-1, WRS-2, WHC, CIR, ER6, CQ) - Note, they are ahead of the timeline as of yesterday.
– MPLM Transfer
– EVA2 prep and campout (Piper and Kimbrough)
Nothing planned on retrieving the gear bag for today? LOL!
Another Big day..
Flight Day 7
Highlights: :)
EVA2 (CETA Cart Relocation, LEE A Lube, Stbd SARJ Maint),
WRS Racks Setup for Activation
– Relocate CETA Carts from Stbd-Stbd to Port-Port
– Starboard SARJ Maintenance
» Cover removal/install
» Cleaning and lubrication of race ring
» TBA R&Rs
– WRS Mod Kit Install
All of luck to everyone.
I hope we don't loose another bag ;)
If they'll loose another bag, goodbye to EVA-3 and EVA-4... ;D
I was a little shocked to findout that bag cost us taxpayers $100K. >:( LOL!
Without shipping costs... ;D ;D
STS78MEMBER, can you imagine how much time it takes to modify those tools to make them useable in cold hard vacuum of space though? $100k although steep seems to be a reasonable figure to me.
I'm surprised the press hasn't jumped all over this and created some kind of spin on it
I'm still outside waiting for that bag to fall in my garden - LOL! There is a number of things I can do with 100K!
/Admin
NASA will probably land you in Guantánamo Bay before you can say "Finder's Keepers" ;)
Thy've lost tools before, wirecutters was the last one they lost, if memory serves me.
the reason those tools were so expensive...er($200,000).....is that they are all made completely of Titanium. I know someone who us to work on Launch Complex 39 said the workers have tools that they have used for years, and not even a scratch on them!
Perhaps we are faced with a alloy titanium-berilio (the berilio avoids the creation of sparks, very dangerous in certain circles). To me the cost of these tools seems absolutely reasonable, and in any case, better that a government spends so that in buying weapons.
Does that mean that Murphy Law of Combat applies here then: "Remember, your Weapon was made by the lowest bidder"
Back on Subject:
Endeavour has boosted the station, to a higher orbit and away from any rogue tool-kits :)
There been a problem with testing the Water system, but it appears to a be a solvable problem. Something to do with Distillation system.
Sorry was busy this morning then had school then the patch came out so I just remembered.
Sorry for the late. I might be really busy with a hockey tournament tommorow so sorry if I am not on tommorow.
Here are Flight day 8 highlights.
Flight Day 8

I think it might burn up in the long run. ~380 km is not that much for an orbit.
Flight Day 12
Highlights:
Under refinement:
FD12: Stbd SARJ Autotrack (three hours - Start time 4:30am Central, 10:30am UK, 11:30am Europe).
UPA Troubleshooting/Samples.
MPLM Replan - if required to return UPA hardware.
Additions added when planning team complete replan of FD12.

Please observe at naked eye, after the sunset, Venus Jupiter and Moon: a great show!
Urine recycle equipment now functioning :)
Did anyone else hear on NASA TV, the 'order' for all Shuttle crew members to use the toilet as much as possible for further 'testing', or was it me hearing it wrong?
I don't want to sound chauvinistic, but for that kind of testing they really need women! Men only know how to miss the target and leave the cover up.
Besides, as soon as there is the slightest mention of liquids, women run to the nearest restroom for relief :)

Daily Update:

I don't want to sound chauvinistic, but for that kind of testing they really need women! Men only know how to miss the target and leave the cover up.
Besides, as soon as there is the slightest mention of liquids, women run to the nearest restroom for relief :)

lol :)
Did anyone catch the story how people were able to see the lost toolbag with a telescope? I caught it on MSNBC yesterday but here's a link to one of the articles: http://blogs.houstonpress.com/hairballs/2008/11/missing_nasa_tool_bag_found_la.php.
Please read my last post in this topic about the lost toolbag...
Leo successfully return to the payload bay, only a few more days until she's back on the orb we call home.

Crew press conference now in progress. Bad weather could delay the landing at KSC or cause a change of landing site to Edwards.
1st KSC Landing attempt ordered a NOGO due to crosswinds.
2nd KSC Landing attempt less likely than the first.
According to commentator KSC is preferred to EDW, even if it means waving off today altogether.
KSC is waved off altogether, considering EDW.
STS-120 you are supposed to let STS-126 cover STS-126 your STS-120 :D
Just kidding ;)
;D ;D ;D ;D
Well picked the name since STS-120 was the first mission i followed back to back.
Payload Bay Doors Closed and Latched
Go for OPS 3 Transition :)
Quick question: If they close the doors, does that mean they are landing today? I was just wondering how they can wait until tomorrow with the doors closed. They have a closed cooling system don't they.
They can reopen them ;)
Edwards at 1625 EST (2125 GMT) it is.
1 minute to go before DOB, 1 hour 6 minutes before landing. Have a safe return home STS-126!!!!
Good burn in progress
Go for EDW :)
Good Luck
Good Burn No Trim Required :)

Go Endeavour!
I'm sitting in my living room watching the NASA TV link on my laptop as my two year old covers my legs with stickers from the movie "Cars". That's about as ready as I'll ever be.
currently in atmosphere
