Title: Absence makes the heart grow fonder
Post by: USA~Driver on October 15, 2008, 10:26:56 AM
Hi Forum,

I just wanted to report that all systems are go, And I have been able to recommence flight operation ASAP today. Recently I upgraded to a Saitek X52 and didn't realize some of the complications I would encounter with profile conflicts, The ubiquitous Vista bugs, Plus general 'life happens' issues prevented me from getting in the cockpit for a good month now. With the technical aspects solved, I'm able to pick up where I left off.. I needed some remedial, Seriously.

It took me about a half hour to get comfortable again... I'm serious... I had forgotten how to turn on the RMS cam!!!! I almost had to consult the manual. I  really felt bad for someone just learning because I was humbled for about ten minutes. I'm gonna have to re-learn to grapple with my new gear on STS-124 because thats where I left off. Presently, I'm at comms 1197, hanging out on my second EVA. I'm taking it slow. Getting use to this Saitek will be like going back to kindergarten.

So as my partner and I complete work on that second EVA, We were threated to a orbital sunrise and it was then I realized how much I really missed being up here. It's funny the things you take for granted. It was like the first time all over again. Can't take too long daydreaming because I have another mission in waiting (STS-32) And I need to get up to speed On Saitek / RMS operations and I have a long way to go with that. By the time the New mission is released, I want to be back on the 'Varsity squad.'   8)

And once you get the hang of that Saitek, you're going to love it!

Righteous. I don't have Track IR so the 'mouse on the throttle' will help out with the heads up. Landing will be the real test because I was golden with my old set-up. I pride myself with my landings because you truly only have one shot at it.

Just a additional note to what I originally posted. I like the 'work pauses' between EVA movement now. Not sure if that's new or not but I like it. In real life they go on for hours so anything that extends them here, I'm good with that. I am one who avoids using the 'next event' option as much as possible. I'm sure there's a wide variety of opinion on that one but thats just me.

I'm ALT / TABBED out of the game so I'll see you later. I got two weeks vacation so it's GAMES, GAMES, GAMES, BABY!!  :D

Two weeks off on vacation :) Try a mission live, no next event, no time skips and eat dry food from plastic bags :)

You might on to something here desktop.  I have never thought of trying to do one dry and with the Air and Space Museum right next to my office, I might have to go over and get some NASA space food.

I am still on hiatus as I get the feeling the enw patch will be coming out (I noticed the beta testers are listed in the Users Hall of Fame for STS 98) and I can't do these missions without stopping and saving.

I'll do it. But you have to keep me company on Teamspeak for the ENTIRE duration of the mission.  :o

"...The Entire Duration..."  :o

I think I need to setup an automated voice, with "Roger that", "We'll look into it", "Could you repeat last transmission" as these are the most frequent things that CAPCOM has said over the years :)

I'll be at work all weekend which we've had to block TS:(However, if you do a mission in real time, I think we should setup a poll for you regarding wake up call songs (http://www.nasa.gov/vision/space/features/wakeup_calls.html) :)
