Title: What happens when....
Post by: fleurenf on December 10, 2009, 03:59:25 AM
Howdy, just curious:

What will happen with SSM 2007 once the Space Shuttle program is officially finished and all missions have been simulated within SSM?

I have read that there might be a SSM 2010 on the drawing board.

Read the interview with Exciting Simulations (1st post in the same forum as you posted this) and it discusses SSM2010 and other topics. Its good reading.

I don't think, that at the end we will have all hundredthirtysomething missions in SSM2007 and have all hundredthirtysomething missions in SSM2010 as well.
My questions would be:
Will there be new missions added to SSM2007 after SSM2010 is out?
Will there be all missions from SSM2007 in SSM2010 as well?
(Probably at least STS-1 will be in both, I guess.)

Without breaking any NDA here, I can safely reveal that "2010" will have ALL the "2007" missions, and some more :)

...and that's all okay with me. You have my purchasing dollars upon it's release. I won't need a demo to convince me it will be worth the wait and the $.

When can we expect the first screenshot from SSM-2010 to be released?

What happens if FPS drop significantly on my current machine when you guys implement numerous graphics improvements - f.e. more polygons inside the 3D cockpit for click-ability etc. Will I be still able to tune down SSM2010 graphics setting to make it look back like SSM2007 just for the sake of 60FPS on my laptop and still enjoy the improvements of simulation alone and new missions of SSM2010?

Too soon to ask, but since we are not very different from other sims in this respect, if the FPS and quality do not match your expectations anymore, it's time to move on and upgrade the hardware.

As you surely notice, we are significantly less power hungry than other simulators, and that allows us to add quite a lot of new features while maintaining a smooth and sustained frame rate throughout the simulation (on the recommended HW).

I am sure that "SSM2010" will have "tune-down" possibilities, but then you will be missing much of the fun, won't you?

You are very much correct sir. It is great that you choose to move forward with both simulation and graphics. Believe me, I want more fun! I will surely get SSM2010 for my more capable desktop machine :) Buy food and water supplies, lock the doors, and call my boss I take sick-leave ;)
I can honestly say I run SSM2007 on current laptop with maxed out graphics and forced anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering without hitches. I am still quite astonished how well SSM2007 is optimized to run with ~60FPS with my specifications (Core2Duo 2.00GHz with GF9600GT M GPU). That's quite an achievement from developing team, so I have no doubts that SSM2010 will be running "silky-smooth" on new recommended HW.

I ripropose a question that I asked on another thread.  ;)

What happen to SSM 2007 when you start developing the SSM2010?
We can expect that we don't have any future SP/MP/FP?
When we can expect that this occurs?

Thanks

Yes, there will be additional MP and FP.

I'll second that :-)

I run SSM on a laptop too, AMOF it's sort of a lowest common denominator for us (Centrino 2 2.1GHz, Nvidia 9400 Mobile chipset, 3GB RAM, Vista 32Bit), and I still get sustained 60 fps with all the FX turned on.

What do you think?
With this new package 5.0, the awesome Ares mission sort of shows the begining of the end for the shuttle-age (sad for that but cant hide that i am excited for the space program in the future anyway), a question poped up in my head.
Is it the way SSM 10 will take, towards the Constellation program with aim for moon and mars or atleast more rocket simulation and less shuttle?
it will probl. be called somethings like Space shuttle mission 2010 so of course, the shuttle will be there...
But will the shuttle or the rocket have the biggest part in the new simulator?

Looking forward towards the future and hope we will have many more challenging and cool missions in the good old shuttle both in this and in the next sim.

Ps. Thx to the dev-team that make this game so great!

I have played all the current space simulators by now...and believe me SSM2007 is the more close to the astronauts reality of all...real panels..real procedures..it really simulate a complete space mission as astronauts do....very happy for the xmas present they give us (Ares 1-x mission)..I hope for the next xmas s they give us the Apollo 11 mission maybe..ha..ha..I am sure will be better that all apollo simulator out there...merry Christmas to you all!!!!!!
