/tease mode on/
Just played with the fifth Beta of the Christmas Package and I can say I'm impressed. I hope all of you will love it at least as much as I do.
Let's say that this release is very... different, just as any Christmas, Hanukka, Kwanzaa, Druid Winter Solstice Fest etc. present should be.
It's T-003:00:00:00 and counting.
/tease mode off/

Can't be Mir. Can it?? :o
-
CANT WAIT!!! BRING IT ON!! I KNOW IT WILL BE GOOD WHATEVER IT IS.
-
Is it here yet!!!! ;D
-
I hate being teased! Coudn't you have at least told us a hint?
I still have to master my fly around. I haven't done one yet. ;)
-
Admin..you are mean...just mean :)
What really sucks is my wife is going in for surgery on Dec 27.... and the next 4 days I will be spending in the hospital (hummm wonder if my aging laptop will run SSM...lol... JOKING).
-
"It's T-003:00:00:00 and counting."
Just the countdown to the SP release or can it be so that you are implementing the possibility to start the mission at 3 days before launch?

no... sorry... I only meant that there are three more days to the mission pack release.

Well I'm not "mean" - I'm "Admean". That explains :)
sorry 'bout the mess with wife. At least you won't miss Christmas.
/Admin
-
LOL @ Admean....
Its all good. Im just happy the devs release such great updates with frequency.
-
T-1 day or so! Can't wait! Any more hints... ::)
-
T-1 day or so! Can't wait! Any more hints... ::)
Yes, there is no docking involved (there goes the "Mir theory" :D)
/Admin
-
So that only leaves about 80 or so other missions... What could it be
-
well, you only have a day or two to wait :)
-
I'll be happy as long as it isn't a scrubbed launch :P

/Marvx
-
Intriguing.
-
Will it be Christmas Eve release again? :)
-
Will it be Christmas Eve release again? :)
lets hope so
/Marvx
-
Hmm think I might run STS-401 as I haven't done but once when it was released. (Last Christmas ;))
-
I'll be happy as long as it isn't a scrubbed launch :P
/Sven
Why? That would add a bit more reality to this great program, wouldn't it?
-
Well, maybe not a scrubbed launch, but what about some launch aborts like RTLS and TAL? Wouldn't this be cool? ;)
It would even be somewhat in tradition with STS-401, which was last Christmas' mission, as this was a "what-if" scenario that was actually planned in real-life as a contingency, but luckily was not needed. RTLS and TAL are also planned and trained for by the astronauts as contingencies, but luckily they were also never needed (and hopefully will not be needed for the few remaining Shuttle missions). So, in this respect, a "launch abort training mission" would be the perfect successor to STS-401 as a "Christmas Mission". ;)
I guess, tomorrow we will know...
Merry Christmas, my fellow "simnauts"!
-
I need to quickly finish that last Hubble mission (STS 125 (26))....man is it a LOOOOONG mission! I may have to wait a day or two before I can patch (to avoid patching and hoping my savegame works)...... ahhhhh!
-
Well I believe it is past midnight were SSM originates so I think we can expect the new patch sometime int next 24 hours ;)
-
Patiently waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
come on new pack!!!!!!! woo cant wait!!!!!!!!
-
We're working on it, be sure of that!
/Admin
-
Maybe you could "open the door" a little?
Only that much, that we can see the STS-number?
Or maybe a riddle to let us guess the mission number?
Oh, please......
/Armin
-
/Admin,
I just wonder is Santa is coming down my chimney tonight with a new FP?? ::) LOL
Keep up the good work!!!
ps. But being in FL, I'll need to install one first...
-
Do we have an estimate time of release. hour? few hours? ::)
-
As far as a hint, it would be fun to list at least two crew members from that flight, then we could try and compare and narrow it down?
Just an idea..... ;D
-
We are aiming for a UTC midnight release - just as Santa passes Zulu 00:00 <g>
/Admin
-
So 7:00 Eastern. Well it is nice to know when we can expect it. :)
Thanks Admin
-
Now I know that I really need to install that Chimney, NOW!
LOL - :o
Thanks!
-
4:00 Pacific time for me. ;D
-
And 01:00 a.m. for me, and many others I hope!
-
yay 7pm come on..thanks admin and everyone else have a marry xmas...yea "abort" issues would be awesome and a whole lot of "what ifs" even a shutdown procedure
-
Just a warning to everyone that I do not see aborts coming... But I have no clue. We shall see in about 4 hours
-
Mèh. I just keep bashing my F5 panel.. errr, key. I guess I'm hoping some information comes through before 0000 zulu (1:00 a.m. local).
Have a merry christmass you all.

Its 8.50am christmas morning in Melbourne Australia just looked under the tree for the feature pack . . . No go so far!!!

I am a little kid! lol Remember I am only 15 (in a week from tomorrow) ;D
-
Another hint for this new release, Admin? No Mir, no docking... There will be a lot of work with RMS?
-
hmm... another hint... it is a mission from the recent past ;)
/Admin
-
Triboelectrification is red . T-00:10:00 and holding. We estimate a 20' hold. Weather should clear soon so no scrub today :)
/Admin
-
Thank you, but I don't remember a mission in a really recent past without docking... Since five days ago I was thinking to STS-107, but now I don't have any idea. It will be a real surprise.
-
Triboelectrification? Sounds allmost like Ares 1-X! Ofcourse, this wouldn't be possible in a Shuttle sim. ::)
-
I don't want to hear "Triboelectrification" ever, ever again. Just kidding. ;)
Can't wait for the SP.
-

LOL... of course "triboelectrification" is not linked to any specific event - it is there, just like... static electricity <g>
/Admin

Neither do I, but I like how it rolls off the tongue... it makes me look "important" and "smart" too <g>
/Admin

Could we have a new hint during the hold? Crew? last digit of mission number? ::)
-
1 minute to continuation of countdown.
-
1 minute
We are in a 20' hold Greggy - see above 8)

Weather is still doing the tribo thingie. We're still at the T-00:10:00 hold while we're waiting for the new launch hour.
/Admin

So 30 min?

Just release it for god's sake you dirty English KNNNIGITS! Whose mothers were hamsters and whose fathers smelt like elderberries. Now release it now or go away or I shall taunt you a second time! SNIFF!
-
Reminds me of the thunderstorm before 51-I. Ox van Hoften and Mike Lounge unstrapped and took a NAP on Discovery's aft panel while waiting for the T-storm to dissipate.

LOL! You used so many "it"s I can barely move...
On the positive (and more serious) part, weather is improving. There is still a 90% chance of a launch TODAY (in the Western Hemisphere that is) <g>. It's only a matter of holding for a maximum of two-digit minutes. A more precise ETA will be given soon.
I hope all of you remember that we're doing this on a Christmas, while more "normal" people either sleep or spend quality time with their families... 8)
We also hope the new mission is worth the wait and that the effort will make this Christmas a truly happy (and complete) holiday.

Of course we do and we GREATLY appreciate it. You are extended family, after all.
-
LOL... Admin I think all posting here understand that those working to get this release out are doing so at a sacrafice to their real life. Hence the humor here.... instead of whining or complaining.
(my goodness we are quoting Monty Python as we wait for a space sim patch.... we are truly in the depths of GEEKNESS ;D )
Thanks to you and the entire crew!!

Eastern Hemisphere = win.
Anyway, my window is closing, time for some sleep. Now I won't get to see Santa bring me my SSM SP. :'(

It will always be there when you wake up... just look at it like getting a present on Christmas morning when you were a kid. You can lie awake all night, get 2 hours sleep then wake the family up to "Discovery..Houston .....Give me Comms Check"

Remember the good old Mercury days?
At T-15 minutes it was necessary to hold the count again to make a final check of the real-time trajectory computer. A small electrical part had a problem and this resulted in an hour and twenty six minute delay. Shepard was on top of the Redstone for so long now that he had to urinate. "Gordo!" he said, talking to Gordon Cooper, a fellow Mercury Seven astronaut and principal prelaunch communicator. "Go, Alan." "Man, I got to pee." "You what?" "You heard me. I've got to pee. I've been up here forever."
Shepard wanted to be let out but there wasn't time to reassemble the White Room. Thinking that he could be up there for hours, he told them he was going to do it in his suit. Unfortunately, there was no urine collection system and the medics were concerned he would short-circuit the leads. "Tell 'em to turn the power off!" Alan snapped. Cooper, with a chuckle in his voice said, "Okay, Alan. Power's off. Go to it."
Shepard couldn't hold back any longer and the liquid pooled in the small of his back. His heavy undergarment soaked up the urine, and with 100 percent oxygen flowing through the suit he was soon dry. The countdown resumed.
At T- minus two minutes and forty seconds and counting, Shepard heard that dreaded word again, "Hold". There was a little computer problem. Getting frustrated, he yelled, "I've been in here more than three hours. I'm a hell of a lot cooler than you guys. Why don't you just fix your little problem and light this candle?"

OK guys,
Weather is improving... we'll get a (hopefully) final ETA in about 10'. We're preparing RC1 for a quick internal test and if all is cool, we restart the countdown very soon.
/Admin

I think that so far this is the most frequently updated thread-my god! :P

And on Christmas Eve JLM..... lol

Yeah - a tight and geeky community allright! This is a great way to spend Christmas - with like-minded friends!

cheers mates:)

Okay ADMIN spill it! Are you guys just doing this to tick us off and are you releasing this service pack at Midnight?
-
Midnight? Which Midnight? There is a midnight every hour. :'(
/Armin

I was meaning midnight eastern GMT-5.00-Romeo.

We use that excuse for drinking......."It's 4'o Clock somewhere!"

Im sure you all have seen it...but if you havent watched the movie "The Right Stuff"... it should be a pre-requiste before downloading SSM2007 :)
"My name es Jose..."

Yea, take a blast.

Okay ADMIN spill it! Are you guys just doing this to tick us off and are you releasing this service pack at Midnight?
Admin promised it for Christmas Eve. Obviously they are under time pressure. I think I just wait a day or two and see how many of your computers will go up in flames and when it is all settled I will download it too.
-
Need an update Launch Control......this breakfast burrito isn't in an agreeable mode right now. ;)

I do not think that any computers will go up in flames. That is the whole reason they are holding it off. To get any bugs they find

And when it goes on-line and everybody jumps to download it, it will come 1 byte per every second. Then the server will crash :)

And when it goes on-line and everybody jumps to download it, it will come 1 byte per every second. Then the server will crash :)
I surely hope that the disaster we had at launch time two years ago will never return - the host went bust and 1000+ sites went down on Christmas Eve. We had to scrub, and it took us one week to move from that pathetic host to a new one and still launch exactly at 00:00 Zulu, Dec 31, 2007 <g>.
So we'll surely overcome this launch too.

Slowly but surely... we've identified minor glitches that need to be fixed. We're not far... my guess is that TZ is in @30-45' from now, but that's not official.
/Admin
-
Roger that.
-
OK, now it's official. TZ at 04:00 Zulu.
We hope that weather cooperates this time.
/Admin
-
Great work and thanks for keeping us informed. Know it will be worth the wait. Beautiful sunny still day here in Melbourne, xmas lunch done enjoying few drinks . . . . im ready to launch!
-
PRILA (Puerto Rico Launch Area) is Go. You have a range clear to launch!
-
Damn Jeff....I'm still on the dark side.....but also have my drinks.
-
Ya it is Go here in Florida! It is getting late here, so I am getting to bed right after I see what the new mission is :)

Guys... we have liftoff... start pressing F5 on your servers :)

Release!
-
Oh wow, never thought it'd be that. Downloading with much anticipation.
Crap, I forgot I had to switch hard drives, I don't have any keys left. Guess I'll sit this one out until SSM2010 comes out.
EDIT: You guys don't have specials on single keys, do you? I'm struck with anticipation.
-
OMG YOU DIDN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D U GUYS R THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! D/LED, I'm reading the manual now!
-
YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME, THE LEVEL OF QUALITY AND COMMITTMENT IS TRUELY AMAZING. MERRY XMAS TO THE TEAM.
-
Wonderful, wonderful. It was so neat to view the Ares launch with the Shuttle in the background. Thanks so much! ;D
-
The weirdest thing happened. After viewing the whole Ares I-X launch, I left it for a while after splashdown, until the guy in the comm said "You guys are frickin awesome!". Then I quit and went to do STS-26. When the SRBs separated... ...the SRBs shot backwards.... and I mean REAL FAST... like if they decelerated to zero miles per hour instantly upon release. Even the flames stayed in place for a while before they realized the SRBs were miles away in a second. Amusing.
Closing SSM2007 and relaunching it fixes that. ...quite the amusing bug. Hahaha. Should I report it? ...aw heck, I will.
-
Great job guys! I love this stuff! Keep up the good work and I'll keep flying shuttles for a while.
Wow.... I guess we'll ge a moonlanding too, eventually. 8) Maybe a Skylab/Apollo-soyuz mission first?
