Title: Time for a new tease ;)
Post by: Admin on December 21, 2009, 04:44:35 AM
/tease mode on/

Just played with the fifth Beta of the Christmas Package and I can say I'm impressed. I hope all of you will love it at least as much as I do.

Let's say that this release is very... different, just as any Christmas, Hanukka, Kwanzaa, Druid Winter Solstice Fest etc. present should be.

It's T-003:00:00:00 and counting.

/tease mode off/

"It's T-003:00:00:00 and counting."

Just the countdown to the SP release or can it be so that you are implementing the possibility to start the mission at 3 days before launch?

Why? That would add a bit more reality to this great program, wouldn't it?
Title: Re: Time for a new tease ;)
Post by: Spacewalker on December 24, 2009, 02:44:53 AM
Well, maybe not a scrubbed launch, but what about some launch aborts like RTLS and TAL? Wouldn't this be cool? ;)
It would even be somewhat in tradition with STS-401, which was last Christmas' mission, as this was a "what-if" scenario that was actually planned in real-life as a contingency, but luckily was not needed. RTLS and TAL are also planned and trained for by the astronauts as contingencies, but luckily they were also never needed (and hopefully will not be needed for the few remaining Shuttle missions). So, in this respect, a "launch abort training mission" would be the perfect successor to STS-401 as a "Christmas Mission". ;)

I guess, tomorrow we will know...

Merry Christmas, my fellow "simnauts"!

I need to quickly finish that last Hubble mission (STS 125 (26))....man is it a LOOOOONG mission!  I may have to wait a day or two before I can patch (to avoid patching and hoping my savegame works)...... ahhhhh!

Only that much, that we can see the STS-number?
Or maybe a riddle to let us guess the mission number?

Oh, please......

As far as a hint, it would be fun to list at least two crew members from that flight, then we could try and compare and narrow it down?

LOL! You used so many "it"s I can barely move...

On the positive (and more serious) part, weather is improving. There is still a 90% chance of a launch TODAY (in the Western Hemisphere that is) <g>. It's only a matter of holding for a maximum of two-digit minutes. A more precise ETA will be given soon.

I hope all of you remember that we're doing this on a Christmas, while more "normal" people either sleep or spend quality time with their families...  8)

We also hope the new mission is worth the wait and that the effort will make this Christmas a truly happy (and complete) holiday.

Remember the good old Mercury days?

At T-15 minutes it was necessary to hold the count again to make a final check of the real-time trajectory computer. A small electrical part had a problem and this resulted in an hour and twenty six minute delay. Shepard was on top of the Redstone for so long now that he had to urinate. "Gordo!" he said, talking to Gordon Cooper, a fellow Mercury Seven astronaut and principal prelaunch communicator. "Go, Alan." "Man, I got to pee." "You what?" "You heard me. I've got to pee. I've been up here forever."

Shepard wanted to be let out but there wasn't time to reassemble the White Room. Thinking that he could be up there for hours, he told them he was going to do it in his suit. Unfortunately, there was no urine collection system and the medics were concerned he would short-circuit the leads. "Tell 'em to turn the power off!" Alan snapped. Cooper, with a chuckle in his voice said, "Okay, Alan. Power's off. Go to it."

Shepard couldn't hold back any longer and the liquid pooled in the small of his back. His heavy undergarment soaked up the urine, and with 100 percent oxygen flowing through the suit he was soon dry. The countdown resumed.

At T- minus two minutes and forty seconds and counting, Shepard heard that dreaded word again, "Hold". There was a little computer problem. Getting frustrated, he yelled, "I've been in here more than three hours. I'm a hell of a lot cooler than you guys. Why don't you just fix your little problem and light this candle?"

Admin, I didn't want to urge. I only want to throw in a nice story.
But how about a new hint?

JLM, don't eat yellow snow.

OK guys,

Weather is improving... we'll get a (hopefully) final ETA in about 10'. We're preparing RC1 for a quick internal test and if all is cool, we restart the countdown very soon.

Im sure you all have seen it...but if you havent watched the movie "The Right Stuff"... it should be a pre-requiste before downloading SSM2007  :)

Okay ADMIN spill it! Are you guys just doing this to tick us off and are you releasing this service pack at Midnight?

Admin promised it for Christmas Eve. Obviously they are under time pressure. I think I just wait a day or two and see how many of your computers will go up in flames and when it is all settled I will download it too.

I do not think that any computers will go up in flames. That is the whole reason they are holding it off. To get any bugs they find

And when it goes on-line and everybody jumps to download it, it will come 1 byte per every second. Then the server will crash :)

I surely hope that the disaster we had at launch time two years ago will never return - the host went bust and 1000+ sites went down on Christmas Eve. We had to scrub, and it took us one week to move from that pathetic host to a new one and still launch exactly at 00:00 Zulu, Dec 31, 2007 <g>.

So we'll surely overcome this launch too.

Slowly but surely... we've identified minor glitches that need to be fixed. We're not far... my guess is that TZ is in @30-45' from now, but that's not official.

Oh wow, never thought it'd be that.  Downloading with much anticipation.

Crap, I forgot I had to switch hard drives, I don't have any keys left.  Guess I'll sit this one out until SSM2010 comes out.

EDIT:  You guys don't have specials on single keys, do you?  I'm struck with anticipation.

The weirdest thing happened. After viewing the whole Ares I-X launch, I left it for a while after splashdown, until the guy in the comm said "You guys are frickin awesome!". Then I quit and went to do STS-26. When the SRBs separated... ...the SRBs shot backwards.... and I mean REAL FAST... like if they decelerated to zero miles per hour instantly upon release. Even the flames stayed in place for a while before they realized the SRBs were miles away in a second. Amusing.

Closing SSM2007 and relaunching it fixes that. ...quite the amusing bug. Hahaha. Should I report it? ...aw heck, I will.
