Title: Space Playlist
Post by: enterprise_69 on December 05, 2008, 04:56:08 AM
Now that I have finally completed my first and second missions STS-41C and STS-1 respectively, I am going to add my first topic about SSM2007. Maybe I am the only one but to help further my collection of songs I take up on a mission I am going to list my top ten and ask you if you have songs you like to listen to on orbit. Here is my top ten.
1.Star Trek Theme-Jerry Goldsmith
2.Up Is Down-Hans Zimmer
3.Orinoco Flow-Enya
4.Canon in D- Pachelbel
5.Adiemas-Enya
6.String Quartet in C-Sharp Mino-Beethoven
7.Tonight and The Rest of My Life-Nina Gordon
8.Forever Young-Alphaville
9.Why-Annie Lennox
10.Rodeo-IV-Hoe Down-Aaron Copland
Hopefully this can be added to someones playlist if they like the songs.

How 'bout the theme from "The Right Stuff"-Bill Conti

When I saw a launch on the NASA causeway 11 years ago, the NASA folks were blaring that out of their speakers along the roadway. I have to say it was pretty inspiring!

not really for a playlist but you could make an awsome vid with this music in the background. Its called "Song of Freedom"

The music from 36 seconds would suit a launch/reentry vid so much -)

If music is included, any flight sim should include Learning To Fly by Pink Floyd.

The song was specifically written due to the fact, that two members of the group (David Gilmour and Nick Mason) are avid private pilots. Gilmour even created and used to own a small company/airline (later he sold it).

Mainly a varied playlist

Favourite launch song:
Either the Star Wars theme
or
Akon feat. Gwen Stefani, the sweet escape.
or even for the DoD missions: "Anchors away"
For the latter part of the acceleration I prefer "Ghost Riders in the Sky"
usually a fair bit of techno, and perhaps some classical music during assembly, usually the Canon in D Major or perhaps the Bolero.

Deorbit again a little more classic, and we have to end onh a banger, usually something along the lines of "Faithless-Insomnia"

I usually play a list of countrytunes, and some heavy stuff as well... :)
For some reason I really think Travis Tritt suits orbital living :D
I love country music :)

In my opinion, the best music to hear in orbit is "The Blue Danube", waltz by Johann Strauss... :)

"Big Smoke" written by Dave Hadfield and preformed  By Astronauts Chris Hadfield and Cady Coleman. The two are in a Astronaut band called Bandella, I had the pleasure of seeing one of their performances in Seabrook Texas this last week.

Gablau, good choice on Floyd. If you listen very, very carefully during the breakdown, you can hear MCC ("Challenger, go at throttle up!"). I did not discover that until a few weeks ago when I had it cranked up super loud in the vehicle. DFox

I prefer the soundtracks of the night program "Space Night" from German Television. It's the best space related German TV program from the 90s:

My space playlist is a mixure of Jonn Serrie, Tsewer Beta, Carbon Based Lifeforms, and Owl City.  And sometimes when flying those old '80s Shuttle Missions, I need to crank so old 80's tunes, back when the future seemed to have so much possibilities, unlike now....
