Thought I would go ahead and start this thread as we are only 18 days from the launch of STS-127 to finish the JEM. launch is currently scheduled for NET: 6-13-09. The payload canister is currently at the pad and is undergoing payload transfers to the PCR. The roll-over of Endeavour to launch pad 39A is currently scheduled for 5-31-09. Things will start to get very busy with Atlantis just landing yesterday and needing a SCA flight to get it back to KSC which will set its processing back by 2 weeks. :)

Endeavour successfully moved from LC-39B to LC-39A early this morning. A Space Shuttle will never be at 39B again. Endeavour is still targeting a June 13th launch.

The countdown for STS-127 has started, and we are about 5 hours into it. The clock started counting at 0900 local. Endeavour is slated to liftoff at 0717 local on Saturday morning.

STS-127 is well into the T-11 hour hold. RSS rotation to the PARK position will be completed around 11 AM EDT.

The RSS is just about completely retracted! Endeavour is visable and she looks GREAT.

The launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour on her STS-127 mission has been delayed. The GUCP (Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate) was, again, leaking hydrogen. This is the same issue as was seen on STS-119. The rate of the leak was unknown. A press briefing is to be set up, but the time is to be determined.

Launch scrubbed :( LH2 leak problem.
Soonest to be OK is the 17th but there is launch conflict with LRO :
LRO and Endeavour share the same window from the 17th to the 20th... and as LRO's launch window on the 17th is pretty late and Endeavour's potential window on the 19th pretty early, the only way to have both during the window is to have LRO on the 17th, and then Endeavour on the 20th... praying that all is OK on the 20th cause otherwise, the next window for STS 127 is on the 11th of july :-\
The other solution is to launch Endeavour on the 17th which would postpone LRO to its next window : 1-4 july... but as LRO seems to be first in line for the 17-20 june window... nothing's certain for now.

Just to let everyone know the current status. The RSS has been moved back to the stack. The ET has boiled off and the work has started on investigating the GUCP leak which was the cause for the 98 hour delay. The platform has been extended so engineers can access the GUCP unit. The work has started on the removal of the GUCP. Please checkout NSF for more detail and up to date news on it.

Way back in 1985, Tim was asked by Bob Crippen to submit crew patch designs for STS-62-A, the first shuttle launch from Vandenberg. After the Challenger disaster, STS-62-A was canceled along with Tim's dreams of having one of his designs fly into space.
Fast forward to 2005. Tim's design for ISS Mission Expedition 11 was selected and his patch design flew in space for 179 days. He waited over 20 years for his dream to come true.
STS-126 was his first shuttle crew patch design that flew in Nov, 2008 and he followed it up with this month's STS-127.
Tim has yet TWO MORE designs flying on STS-129 and Expedition 22 this November, 2009 (which are shown below).

GUCP not removed. The GH2 vent line was removed, as well as the Quick Disconnect (QD) and seal.

Gonna get up at 0430 for the 0540 launch tomorrow morning (06/17/2009 ET) and hope for the best..
Since it'll be a "night launch" (one of the last NASA has promised 2-or-so launches ago; if anyone remembers) -- it should be a good one! I'm in East Orlando and it's exactly due East from my front door about @65-70 miles, as the crow flies...
For those of you who aren't "real time", I'll post the results of the launch as soon as I can..

FYI: We're getting hit really hard by severe t-storms right now and it could be possible that the RSS might have to be moved back into position to cover the Shuttle...I suspect, but not that likely as it takes so much time to perform.
We've got t-storms that are reaching 40+ thousand feet moving due-South and extreme lightning at the moment. We've had 10,000 lightning stikes over the last 2 hours so far.
Keeping you informed, as they are in the basic time-frame to start tanking the external tank very soon..

The external tanking was supposed to start at 2017 but the lightning has delayed the start of that event and they have @90 minutes to continue the event to allow the launch within the established window...
As I hear more, I'll post it.
ps. We have multiple reports of several house fires from lightning stikes... honestly, typical summer weather issues here in Central Florida...we are the undisputed lightning capital of the world (as I understand).

The weather around KSC is starting to pick back up again as cloud-to-cloud lightning is building, postponing the tanking procedure. As I've heard (on NASA TV and local weather stations) that 2000 hrs (LET) will be the next time to try and start the procedure, but, if it continues it could mean a delay.
The launch window of oportunity is very small to acheive an orbital insertion to the ISS and the weather, at this point, could hinder that launch schedule..

As of: 2233 hrs (LET) - the storms are just now starting to disapate - and they are thinking about starting the fueling operation...

We are officially past 2 hours from when tanking was supposed to begin and this will be historic if they do tank. Before the latest was 1.5 hours. They are looking optimistic and the radar is clearing but we are going to be VERY tight on the timeline if we do GO for tanking. :-\

As much as I love the Shuttle, since I grew up with it, I think that it is time for NASA to get a new, more reliable launch vehicle. The ET and MPS is the most annoying systems NASA has ever operated.

Agreed, but the shuttle itself is such a beauty. So sad they couldn't come up with anything more interesting than a pseudo apollo enhancement :'(

Yes. The Shuttle itself works just perfectly. We should keep in mind that the threat of thermal protection system damage also is caused by the external tank. If the ET would just be a different technology from the beginning, we would not have seen the STS-107 accident and there would probably no 2010 retirement and all the delays and time consuming changes. Even the solid rocket boosters are an almost perfectly working masterpiece of engineering, if handled properly (STS-51L). They are not only the biggest solids, but unlike Wernher von Braun once was concerned about, those boosters have proved to be very reliable for manned space flight. And they are going to be used for the next NASA launch vehicles, probably even beyond Ares if it works...

On the other hand, we should start thinking about going further into space finally than just to orbit the earth for another decades. The Shuttle and ISS have contributed a lot to technological progress, but like a lot of astronauts and a lot of scientists say: now it is time to go further. For manned missions to the Moon, and to Mars later on, I can dispense with the Shuttle. But we have to start if we want to go there. And we have to come to a compromise for that, and that means no Shuttle, as it is an earth orbit system only.

I firmly agree with Moonwalker's previous two comments..
And, yes the SRB's have proven to be extremely reliable (plus they plan to use it for the Constellation-series spacecraft as well) and it was a serious concern when being used for manned flight in the beginning.

After the second GUCP leak, NASA decided to hold a tanking test, on July 1st, 2009. Well, that tanking test is over, and the GUCP did NOT leak... GREAT news. We are scheduled for a 7:39 PM EDT launch on July 11th, 2009. That is next Saturday.

Well its my mums birthday on the 11th, and I wont be around to watch the shuttle launch stream. Will be keeping my eyes and ears out for any info I can get from the radio. Here's hoping for a successful launch after the delay.

Moses is talking about the lightnin monitoring systems, apparently there were 11 strikes very close( within 3 NM) to the pad, magnitude has been above the limit threshold, tanking never started to tank. Yesterday's storm was declared an official lightning event.
Shuttle and SRBs need further evaluation, no damage done, but it needs evaluation.
Basically they need a little more time to do so, but weather looks better for tomorrow anyway.

The lighning strike has been cleared. Tanking to start at ~9:48EST

The early looks at the Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate show no signs of a leak like those that scrubbed two previous launch tries for Endeavour. Realignments to the plate were successfully tested July 1, but engineers will watch the readings closely during today's countdown nonetheless.

40% chance for a "GO." It is really not looking good. If they don't get it off today or tomorrow, they are going to have to wait until the end of July.

They will most likely call "Go/NoGo" at the T-9 min hold as until then the weather here in Florida can do what ever it wants. These are not bands of rain so there is no guarantee KSC will get bad weather. I have had it before were the storm builds up around my county. A lot of these storms that for don't move very fast at all which will be good and bad. All depends if god picks today for Endeavour to go into 0g.
ET is now in stable replenish. No leaks so the GUCP work was definitely successful.

We've had some real bad weather the last 4+ days consecutive... honestly, it's not out of the ordinary for our Summer time

But like I said before. Anything can happen with theses showers. Best of luck would be they get a light rain early today and cools the area off which would make it less likily they would get any strong storms the rest of the day.
Saturday was like a 70% chance of a NOGO and when the time came it would have launched if they haden't got struck by lightning the night before. :)

The weather at this time (1552 EDT) is still a "GO" but there are some T-Storms monving into the area - but so far it looks good.
Here in East Orlando we've only had some light showers....

NASA TV reported that a shower system they were watching form to the west of the launch pad has dissipated.
There was also a lighting warning for parts of KSC, but the storms were moving away from the pad.

I'm watchin the NWS Weather RADAR and it looks like a T-Storm is moving directly towards the Shuttle Pad from a South-North trajectory... FYI -- not to mention a storm moving from the North-West...

Just finished cleaning my garage. IT took all day.
We are in RED for lighting right now but looking at the radar there are strong storms north and south of the KSC. But they are moving away probably in the next 30 min. Unless some pop up we should be good in my opinion.
Can't make the Sinc. To busy.
Next launch I will if we launch today.

It's their job. They are used to it. Polansky said it best: "Either the weather is favorable or it's not, there's no clear cut decision. We'll fly when we fly, don't get excited until the SRBs light."

My point is this. East Coast of Central Florida in summer = Thunderstorm Magnet. Late afternoon is the WORST time to try to fly.
They need to scrub until an early or mid morning launch window opens. IF they get it up on Wed, it will be a small miracle.

Not just from the Shuttle point of view, it is bad for anyone trying to move through the air.
I've just spent 7 Weeks hourbuilding in Florida, anyflying after 2PM would be great, but don't take it for granted.

Radar looks great right now, and we are less than 2 hours from the launch window for today. Problem is they did a 48 hour scrub-turnaround. Looks like tomorrow's weather is a day early...

The weather looked just like this yesterday! It wasn't until T-15 min till they ran into any problems. They are more likely to have good weather tomorrow than today but it doesn't mean they will. It is all unpredictable. They just have high thinking that they will have good better weather tomorrow. Plus that wasn't the only reason they did 48 hours. The crew deserved a break, and the covers on the thrusters needed to be changed and replaced. They made the right call.

I assumed that went without saying...And the sea breeze front was much closer yesterday than today, I was just pointing out that the weather was further away. Had that Tyvek cover not come loose, they might have tried it again today. I really don't think the astronauts would have minded another attempt today. I know I wouldn't!!!

They'll have to watch carefully for the debris strikes on the tiles. About 9 debris hit the tiles apparently, and 3 impacts were spotted before SRB SEP :

Yep deorbit prep countdown is going smoothly. We're at page 1-15 (blocks 13,14 and 15 almost completed). OPS 3 transition made and targets loaded successfully :)

Entry Flight Director Bryan Lunney gave a "go" for payload bay door closure. The weather at Kennedy's Shuttle Landing Facility is currently observed and forecast “go” for the first landing opportunity at 10:48 a.m. EDT. The team will continue to monitor weather before making the decision at approximately 9:22 a.m. whether to press ahead with the deorbit burn. The burn would occur at 9:41 a.m. EDT for that first landing opportunity.

I am more and more excited about implementing the shutdown procedures in SSM2007 earlier than planned, but if we do, this will definitely be implemented in two stages:
1. The Shuttle crew shutdown procedures.
