Great!
I have a question. Very importat one actually.
Will the Velocity Vector on HUD actually work correctly (compared to 3S)? So it will indicate where the craft will end up?
If so, then automatically angle between HUD Aircraft Datum and HUD Velocity Vector (which we can read using HUD Pitch Scale for reference) will correctly indicate current Angle of Attack?

Yes, the question is very important.

The flight model and HUD behavior will be extremely accurate. S3 was a pre-alpha code and the deorb/landing part were slapped in only for completeness, not for anything more than that. You can be confident that landing the Space Shuttle will NOT be as easy as in S3 :D.

Hi there,

You can be confident that landing the Space Shuttle will NOT be as easy as in S3 :D.

Erm, maybe I suck at Shuttle landings cause I lack the required knowledge and experience, but: I did not find S3 landings particularly easy, actually difficult as hell. In S3, I got the impression that the automatic rollout of the HAC is a little late and results in overshotting the extended centerline. So I would switch to CSS early enough. But then, yaw control around the vertical axis seemed very slow and I had a hard time to roll out correctly. Anyway I hoped the improved guidance modes would facilitate matters rather than make things worse...? ;-)

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan,

S3 landing is EASY, believe me. However, forget everything you know about S3. S3 is not an indication of what SSM2007 really is.

Improved guidance is not a guarantee for an improved manual landing proficiency, especially with a more accurate flight and Shuttle handling model (think crosswinds, etc).

Imagine you need to land a B-747 manually. You have tons of guidance equipment but that will only tell you how you should fly towards the touchdown point, not HOW to handle the aircraft.

Same here. If you've landed heavies + sail-planes in Microsoft FS then you'll feel very comfortable at the controls. If not, then "practice makes perfect" and as we stated in the FAQs, each mission has an entry point for approach + landing trainng so you can do that without affecting the mission, and practice landing at KSC and EAFB as many times as you need.
