Title: Stapping in the flight deck crew
Post by: HMSEndeavorreborn on July 17, 2009, 09:29:07 AM
Just curious as to how NASA handles the strapping in of the people on the upper deck since the shuttle is pointed verticle when its launched.

I'm just watching the FD1 highlights on youtube and I noticed one of the closeout team members standing roughly where the RMS/rear control panel is, is the paneling there reinforced and buttons recessed to avoid any damage to the panel during strap in or do the ground crew place something there that can be easily moved to the mid deck and then the white room? Thanks for any insight.

Well lets ferst say the closeout crew is very flexible. And as far as I know they stand on the windows (with covers put on them) and empty panels.
