Post by: simking on March 13, 2008, 01:07:07 AM
Ok question are any of the tasks using the Canada arm automated on the real shuttle? I mean they practice for years so they should have all the movements right me and someone were having a discussion and he says yes I say no some some tasks like the tile scanning ect look like it could be automated..just wondering

Most of the RMS work is in fact automated. The OBSS-scans are fully automated and most of the work on the station is also done automatically. For instance, on STS-123 an automatic sequence got the JLP almost to the docked position. They stopped it a few meters out and the RMS-operators took it in manually. Often it's automatic sequences when they have astronauts on the end of the station arm as well. Christer Fuglesang noted the arm moved much smoother when the other crewmembers moved him around than when it was automated.
