SSM07 Supports Video Makers!

If you are a budding video artist, or perhaps you want to simply film your approach into Edwards at night, SSM07 supports your ability to film!

Early on in the development cycle suggestions were made to allow for better camera functions and allow "free form" movement of the camera around the spacecraft in all phases of spaceflight. Because of this SSM07 encompasses several simplistic but effective tools to allow folks to film their work. While a 3rd party program such as FRAPS is still required, the program is very user friendly for film makers.

Don't believe me? Check out the SSM07 Official Video, which was filmed entirely without a "debug" or "console" mode. These are stock examples of how this program can be used to create either a wonderful backdrop to a story and/or a training tool to show others how to perform functions such as a deorbit burn!

In the future you will be hearing more from me regarding how to utilize SSM07 as a film media platform.

That is great Valkyrie for all artist and hope that we gonna see much new videos here from our users ! Like video tutorials !

The demo mode allow you to capture 10 secondes of video and you'll got a watermark on the images.

One thing to keep in mind though : FRAPS is a great tool but it is a bit heavy on the resources. It tends to reduce the frame rate quite considerably and as a result, on slower PCs. the captures may look choppy or out of sync.

FRAPS also tends to generate huge files because it does not compress the video. That seems to be a necessity to keep up a smooth recording.

And last, you cannot use the recordings straight away on machines which do not have FRAPS installed because FRAPS uses its own "version" of AVI which requires a FRAPS driver. If you want other people to enjoy your work of art, you must transcode the FRAPS recordings to WMV, DiVX, etc. with a tool such as Windows Movie Maker (free with Windows XP Pro and up) or other, more powerful (and costly) tools. You will need a video editing tool anyway in order to "glue" the various shots, add some transitions, titles, music etc.

Speaking of videos, that's one thing I miss in most modern games, in ol' Quake, I could record a demo of me playing, then I could have it output the video at the highest settings on max res, even if my comp couldn't handle it, by having it process in "Seconds Per Frame" sorta like CGI movies, rather than it being dependent on your "Frames Per Second"!

Hi,
This will be great for Tutorials. I for one am no math genius and have difficulty understanding orbital theory and mechanics where the "rubber meets the road"
like performing the insertion to a specific orbit or calculating the amount of fuel needed. If the tutorials are good enough to teach shuttle piloting to a baboon I will do fine! :D

No need to be a math genius or Astronaut to enjoy SSM2007. Do you actually think that the Commander has to compute his trajectory to dock with the ISS or intercept the Hubble? No Sir! It's all done by Shuttle's and Mission Control computers. Moreover, in the Low difficulty mode, the SSM actually holds your hand and shows you what to press, where to move the RMS and where to go. It is quite simple.

Managing the RMS, piloting, landing or docking the Shuttle manually is another thing. You won't need a Orbital Physics degree for that either but you'll need to practice - there is no way around that :)

Yes, this most certainly is a pain with modern day DirectX video recording programs. I am very fortunate to have a powerful computer with a second hard drive, which by saving to the second hard drive while playing the game on the first can save you big frames.

Let me reaffirm what Admin wrote. I am a total knuckle dragger when it comes to this stuff as well, however I am able to jump right into the missions and "pretend" to be an austronaut because of the intuitive learning system that is built in.

I STILL am proud however that I did my first docking flawlessly on the first try *toots own horn!*
