Hi Guys,

Well, my system crashed last night. I lost both hard drives. I also lost all my work on the mission specific checklists. Looks like I'll have to start from scratch. :'(

Space Shuttle Mission 2007 also generated a new PC ID when I added the new replacement drives. Looks like I'm without SSM2007 until I get an updated Activation code. :'(

I'll have to reinstall all my flight sim software as well, thats about 75 cd's. Looks like another day lost to reinstalling my system.

What are the odds of losing two hard drives at the same time?.

Like I said "What a BAD day I'm having.

You mentioned both HDs.  Were you running a RAID configuration?  If so that's scarry.  I'm remiss on doing backups because I figure what are the possibilities of loosing both drives at the same time.  What a bummer for you.

Hi,

I created a backup, it was on the other hard drive. I never thought I would lose two hard drives at the same time (what are the odds in that happening).

Well

Time to get back to work, I just received my new SSM2007 code.

Hi pheberer

QuoteI'm remiss on doing backups because I figure what are the possibilities of loosing both drives at the same time

You got to realize that RAID1 will protect you against exactly 1 thing: Physical failure of 1 drive. All other types of failure will cause you to lose data. You get a virus: The damage it does is instantly copied to both drives. Windows decides to write random data to your disk: That too is copied to both drives!

I strongly urge you to get AND use a backup solution. Really, with the price of an external drive going down, you can't afford not to. But do make it an external drive, so you can disconnect it from the PC - that way a virus can't get at it!

sound like two partitions on a RAID0 Array

if one of the phisical drives fail - both the partition are lost.

I second that: using 1TB NAS in RAID config on the LAN, 1TB USB "fixed drive", 2x USB 320MB - all for backups.

Ah, yes - and a heap of DVD+R too! These are kept in a safe. Paranoid enough?  ;D

Try using data recovery software I used it on one of my crashed drives and recovered all of my files on the drive along as it still spins up I give you the name later and a link right now I ca't remember

here is the link to that software the price is kinda steep but well worth it
