My First Flight STS 1 Complete
« on: May 22, 2008, 04:34:28 AM »
Greetings everyone.  I can finally post a successful STS 1 mission, and I have to say this simulator is unbelievable.  I've quietly been hoping that at some point there would be a proper, detailed simulation made.  And here it is.  I'm a total geek and the switches and flight ops and all the visual detail is awesome.

Does anyone remember the version available for the Commodore Amiga years ago?
I fell in love with the idea of flying the Shuttle with that game.  With SSM, its like WOW this is how its meant to be.

I had a bit of trouble with the landing, but finally managed it and now have a nice mission patch in my achievements window.   ;D

Take care folks,

Karl

Good work mate,

I think most of us had some trouble with our first landing. I know I did.

The best missions are yet to come.

Cheers

He's so right, The best is yet to come...Do yourself a favor and try not to rush through your missions. I made the mistake of blazing through just about all of them, Not savoring the experience and had to learn the hard way.. ( running out of missions ) Landing this beast can be tricky at first but is easily mastered. One way you can practice is to re-run the landing phase of STS-1 until your more comfortable with it. Rogers Dry Lake Bed provides an exellent oppotunity to run the "simulator.." You might want to be fluent with the procedure before attempting a landing at KSC with its conventional concrete runway.

Good Luck and welcome to the club!!   :)

Here, here - take your time and try things out.  There is plenty of time between major mission operations and this sim is packed with models of functions in the real world Shuttle.

Welcome - and glad to have another who appreciates just how awesome SSM is!

Thankyou for a wonderful welcome.  I can't agree more, it really is an amazing sim.

And yes I'm gonna take my time and savor each flight, its been something I've waited for for years.

Just out of curiosity..  has anyone done a flight realtime?

Thanks,

Karl
